Chassis:
The first of the final five Daytona Competiziones built, chassis 16343 was delivered new to Luigi Chinetti for his North American Racing Team. It was entered in the 1973 Daytona 24 Hours for Claude Ballot-Lena and Jean-Claude Andruet. An unfortunate accident ended their charge early. The Series 3 Daytona suffered a similar fate at the 24 Hours of Le Mans the following year where it was raced for N.A.R.T. by Jean-Pierre Paoli and Alain Couderc. Once again repaired, it was sold to Vic Loh. He entered the car in 1975 Daytona 24 Hours for Jon Woodner and Fred Philips. They finished seventh overall and first in the Group IV class. In 1981, it was back for a third attempt at the Daytona 24 Hours. This effort was cut short by a mechanical failure.
Following its contemporary racing career, it passed through several American hands before it was acquired by a long-term custodian in 2003. Following a mechanical overhaul by specialist Piet Roelofs, it was subsequently campaigned in historic events like the Tour Auto, Le Mans Classic and the Monterey Historic Races. In June of 2025, it was consigned to RM Sotheby’s for a sealed auction with a $5.5 - $7.5 million.
