Chassis:
Commissioned by Earle M. Chiles, an heir to the Fred Meyer supermarket chain, this 906 Carrera 6 was fielded by his Rapido Inc. team. It was delivered through Porsche Cars Northwest and originally finished in white. It was raced for Chiles by the likes of Gary Wright, Mike Fisher and Pete Lovely predominantly on the West Coast. It was also raced in the 1966 Road America 500 where Fisher and Lovely scored a class podium. Following an accident early in 1967, it was sold to Monte Shelton. He repaired the car and re-finished in the blue colour it wears to this day. Shelton extensively raced the 906 until he offered it for sale in March of 1970. It changed hands several times during the next couple of years and continued to be campaigned in club events and historic races. In 1988, it returned to Europe and joined Fabrizio Violati’s Maranello Rosso Collection. It was part of this formidable collection for a decade. In 2001, it was acquired by fellow Italian Alfredo Spinetti. He enjoyed the car for the next 21 years in events like the Vernasca Silver Flag Hill Climb. In 2022, 906-140 returned to the United States where it was established that it still retains much of its original bodywork, chassis and matching numbers gearbox. Still finished in the Monte Shelton colours, it was consigned to the 2025 Broad Arrow Auctions Porsche Air|Water sale.
