Chassis:
One of 20 full fledge Porsche 911 GT3 RS competition cars built at Weissach in 2003, this example was sold new to American Rodger Hawley and his Orbit Racing team. It was immediately dispatched to Le Mans where it debuted in the official test with works driver Marc Lieb, Peter Baron and Leo Hindery. The latter owned the YES Network, which held the television rights for the New York Yankees, which was reflected in the car’s very distinct livery. For the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the trio of drivers qualified 35th overall and finished 17th, which was a very impressive second in class. Entered under the BAM! British American Motorsport banner, it was raced only once more; in the 2004 Sebring 12 Hours. Baron and Hindery were now joined by Mike Rockenfeller and finished 5th in the GT class. Not raced again, this 996 GT3 RS has a 100% finish ratio and was refinished in its 2003 Le Mans podium finishing livery. Recently restored to full running order, it was consigned to the 2025 Broad Arrow Auctions Porsche Air|Water sale.
