Chassis:
Commissioned by Dmitri Nabokov, who was the son of famous author Vladimir Nabokov, this is the only TZ finished with Zagato’s double-bubble roof. This feature was added to clear the tall frame of Nabakov, who was an acclaimed author in his own right but also a talented athlete and aspiring opera singer. He fielded the car, which was prepared by Carlo Facetti, in 23 different races during the next season and a half. In August of 1965, it was was sold to Australian Max Brunninghausen. He raced the car with some success Down Under. Although it did change hands several times, it remained in Australia through to 1991. It was then acquired by an American Alfa Romeo enthusiast. He had the car prepared for historic racing and regularly raced the car during the 1990s. It was then retained in his stable for three decades, before the unique double-bubble roof was consigned with the rest of the ‘Quadrifoglio Collection’ to the 2025 RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale.
