Chassis:
One of a pair of Giulietta SZ Coda Troncas sold through the Newark, New Jersey Alfa Romeo distributor, this example was dispatched to the Martini & Rossi Racing Team. This was the first racing endeavour backed by the Italian spirits company that would later become legendary with the Martini liveried Lancias and Porsches. For the Alfa Romeo, the backing was more subtle with a Martini & Rossi Racing Team script on the front fenders. It debuted in the 1962 Daytona Continental 3-Hours where Paul Richards finished second in class behind the sister car. It then went on to finish third in class and fifth overall at Sebring. Chassis 00200 was then raced at select events in 1962 but despite preparation for the Sebring 12 Hours, it does not appear to have been raced after its debut season. It subsequently passed through a handful of American owners before the stable of a prominent Alfa Romeo enthusiast in 2016. The SZ was subsequently restored and fitted with a period correct engine and only covered around 1,000 miles before it was consigned with the rest of the ‘Quadrifoglio Collection’ to the 2025 RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale.
