82nd Goodwood Members' Meeting
With the 82nd Members' Meeting, the Goodwood Estate kicked off the venue's 2025 motorsport season. The ever busy schedule will also feature the Festival of Speed in front of the House and the Revival Meeting, which is also held on the Motor Circuit. In many respects, the Members' Meeting is a more relaxed version of the Revival without the strict 1966 cut-off and associated dress codes, and also without the massive crowds that have visited the circuit every September since 1998. Much like the Festival of Speed, the Members' Meeting celebrates the full history of motorsport. This broad range was exemplified this year by the S.F. Edge Trophy that was open to pre-1919 cars only and the demonstration runs of the brand-new Cadillac Le Mans racer and Gordon Murray Automotive T.50s Niki Lauda.
During the two-day event, our photographers were treated to some spectacular racing, lucky escapes and poignant demonstrations many of which have been captured in our 160-shot gallery.

Anniversary celebrations
One of the great stories in recent history, the last 25 years to be exact, has been the rise to the fore of the British Jota Sport team. From humble beginnings racing a Honda Integra on the Nürburgring in 2000, the Sam Hignett and David Clark owned team is now the works representative for Cadillac in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Along the way, Jota Sport scored numerous class and outright victories and famously finished on the outright podium at Le Mans with an LMP2 car in 2017. At the Members' Meeting, the silver anniversary of the team was celebrated with a line-up of LMP2 prototypes and Hypercars that had been campaigned by the team over the years. Current drivers Will Stephens and Alex Lynn were on hand to demonstrate the Hertz-liveried Cadillac V-Series.R that the team will race at Le Mans later in the year.
A particular poignant celebration was the 40th anniversary of Ayrton Senna's first Grand Prix win. To mark the occasion his nephew Bruno demonstrated the very Lotus 97T that Senna had driven to victory at Estoril in 1985.

Racing Masterclass
Following a morning and afternoon of timed practices, the first races concluded the action on Saturday. The very last of the day was the two-driver Gurney Cup for 1963 to 1967 sports cars. The 45-minute race featured a colourful fielded that included GT40s, Chevrons, Elvas, Lotus 23s, and a rare Ferrari 206 S Dino. In 2024, the Gurney Cup was run for one driver and won by Ben Mitchell in the unique left-hand drive Chevron B8 that he now shared with his brother Sam. They qualified the car on the front row, alongside the Ford GT40 shared by Max Lynn and current FIA World Endurance Champion Andre Lotterer, and the sole Ferrari in the field, which was entered for David Franklin and former Audi works driver Frank Stippler. The freshly rebuilt Dino proved remarkably fast in Stippler's hands but during the opening laps of the race it lost some ground in the hands of Franklin, who was marking his 60th season of racing. The race was turned upside down when a GT40 lost a wheel under braking requiring a lengthy safety car period. To prevent an overcrowded pit lane, it was decided to eventually red flag the race to allow for a much safer driver change on the grid. What remained was a 20-minute sprint with all the pro drivers aboard. Stippler lined up at the back of the grid for what would become one of the all-time great Goodwood drives. Powered by a very special two-litre engine built by Edi Wyss Engineering with some input from Mario Illien, the howling Dino with Stippler seemed to defy physics by rapidly moving up the order. Stippler managed to grab the lead with several minutes to spare after an absolute masterclass. It was a remarkable way to celebrate his 50th birthday earlier in the week.

Touring Titans
With four races for tin top machinery, touring cars very much took centre stage during the 82nd Goodwood Members' Meeting. Always popular is the Gordon Spice Trophy for Group 1 touring cars of the late 1970s and early 1980s. In 2025, this was run over two races with the celebrity drivers competing on Saturday and the owners on Sunday. The final results were the aggregate of the two races. Current BTTC stars Jake Hill and Tom Ingram shared the spoils in the first heat with the Capri of Hill beating the Camaro of Ingram. Thanks to a dominant win from Fred Shepherd in heat two, the combined results were headed by the Mustang he shared with Romain Dumas.
The smaller displacement touring cars of the same era were split off this year in the Win Percy Trophy, which featured a single, two-driver race. After the cars had been started by the owners, Andre Lotterer in the pole-sitting Volkswagen Golf and Jake Hill in an Escort emerged in the lead. The tight and spectacular battle was settled in Hill's favour after the Golf lost its top gear.
Two-litre touring cars of the 1960s competed in the Whitmore Cup. Le Mans winner started from pole position in a Lotus Cortina alongside former F1 racer Max Chilton in a similar Cortina and touring car racer Adam Morgan in a Mini. Despite valiant efforts from Chilton, Smith won the race with Justin Law completing an all-Cortina podium in third.

GT3 Shoot-Out
Created in 2006 to make GT racing more accessible, the GT3 category is today used the world over including at all the major endurance races. Whereas the previous generation GT1 and GT2 cars used a pre-set intake restrictor and weight limit to create a level playing field, GT3 introduced BOP or Balance of Performance. This only required the cars to be capable of operating in a certain performance window with the outright performance then determined by adjusting the weight limit and intake restrictor on the fly. In theory, this eliminated the costly quest for performance that made GT1 and GT2 an expensive avenue for manufacturers and customers. As illustrated by the GT3 cars demonstrated during this year's Members' Meeting, GT3 certainly succeeded in attracting a broad range of manufacturers and models. Among the machinery out in the high-speed runs were a choice of Audi R8s, Ferraris, McLarens but also rarer models like a Ford GT and a Morgan Aero SuperSports GT3. Probably the most successful model of the 2006 to 2015 era is the Audi R8, which was represented by the 2011 Bathurst 12 Hour and 2014 Nürburgring 24 Hour winning cars.
In addition to the high-speed demonstration, there was also a singe lap shoot-out for which six cars lined up on Sunday afternoon. Clocking the fastest time of all was Goodwood specialist Andrew Jordan with one of the Callaway-prepared Chevrolet Corvette Z06s.

Final thoughts
In total there were thirteen races for competition cars and motorcycles during the 82nd Members' Meeting, all of which featured some great racing. With further excitement added by the high-speed demonstrations, the 2025 Goodwood season opener provided a great spectacle for the thousands of visitors of the Goodwood Motor Circuit. All of the races and demonstrations are featured in our 160-shot gallery.
